3/23/2021 -  Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina is seeking a full-time certified/ Registered Medical Assistant to work in our pain management clinic - work will be in our Wakefield and Knightdale offices.

 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, escorting patients to and from exam rooms, taking all patient vitals, entering patient information in electronic medical records (EMR) system, drawing up injections, verifying prior authorizations, calling in prescriptions to pharmacies, periodically checking voicemails throughout the day, and verifying patient charts for the following day.

 

A minimum of a High School Diploma and Medical Assistant Certification/ Registration is required. Athena (EMR) experience preferred

About The Role: 

In this role, you will provide direct services to members, who face economic and social challenges in addition to having mental and physical health needs, through our innovative care model.  It is integral to our care model that we meet people where they are, both physically and emotionally. You will be part of our first clinical “hub,” a primary care practice that in many respects will look more like a community center than a doctor’s office. How We Define Success:

  • Welcome members to the hub, directing and/or escorting members to their destination, communicate their arrival to other members of the team, and check in with members before they leave to assess overall experience

  • Work directly with Community Health Partners, providers, and other care team members in the hub, to coordinate clinical and community resources for home-based, community-based, or telehealth primary care visit

  • Prepare daily reports and prep for visits by reviewing medical, social, behavioral health, and prescription history in our care facilitation system, Commons; update current medications and care gaps with other care team members in the chart 

  • Participate in daily huddle, highlighting high-risk members using information from Commons as well as the EHR  and assist in closing care gaps as needed

  • Prepare examination room for member visits, keeping them neat, clean, and well stocked

  • Prepare equipment used for testing during visit, including ECG; perform daily testing of equipment, and assist the Hub Operations Manager in facilitating required maintenance

  • Interview members at the start of the appointment and record medical history in chart

  • Obtain and record vital signs, height, and weight for members

  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing 

  • Assist the primary care provider during the exam at the Hub and in the field 

  • Coordinate follow-up care, including diagnostic tests, specialty care, and other treatment 

  • Track, log, and support re-ordering of medical supplies, vaccines, etc

  • Support efforts around quality gap closures and prevention opportunities for our members (colonoscopies, mammographies, etc) in the hub and in the field. 

  • Under the direction of the Operations Manager, check real-time member experience feedback and assist in resolving operational issues

  • Receive incoming phone calls/messages, complete requests for appointments, assist with administrative forms, and direct any requests for medication refills to the practice nurse

  • Facilitate external appointments with specialty providers, including submission of referral requests

  • Organize and distribute incoming communications to the hub, including mail and faxes.  

  • Assist the Operations Manager with fulfilling daily tasks and functions of the Hub, as needed.

  • Obtain patient consent for care and ensure patient confidentiality. Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint, vital signs, health risk factors, and assesses disease condition. Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.

  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns. Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.

  • Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes. Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management.

  • Obtains blood samples by finger and heel stick as well as venipuncture, ability to perform testing such as strep, flu, RSV and urine. Perform urine and blood microscopy, and plate cultures. Run daily controls and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.

 

JOB TYPE

  • Full time (typically 8 hour shifts with some late nights)

  • Every 3-4 weekend (weekends are Saturday and Sunday from 7:30am to around 12:00pm)

Essential Functions/Responsibilities of a Medical Assistant (other duties may be assigned):

  • Set-up for injections, P&A procedures, wart procedures, in-office surgical procedures, etc.

  • Prep nail care patients, smooth/debride nails and/or calluses with electric grinder. Vacuum all clippings from the floor.

  • Fit and dispense walking and night splints.

  • Apply pads and/or adhesive strappings as needed.

  • Measure and fit patients for Diabetic shoes, heat mold inserts.

  • Take and develop X-rays

  • Prepare lab specimens (including paperwork) and call the appropriate lab for pick up.

  • Clean, wrap and autoclave instruments and packs as needed, change cold sterile solutions monthly.

  • Count instruments in treatment rooms at the end of each session (AM & PM).

  • Replenish used supplies in drawers as needed. Restock rooms at the end of day.

  • Keep inventory of back office supplies and DME items, reorder as needed or notify the supervisor when low.

  • Assist in surgeries and minor procedures.

  • Clean-up after surgery – dirty drapes, wrappings, dispose of sharp, red bag items, wipe down counters, mop floor – scrub, clean, autoclave instruments.

  • Change post-op dressings, remove sutures.

  • Call post-op patients the day following surgery, complete Follow-up sheet.

  • Review information sheets with patients as needed.

  • Travel to other offices as needed/requested.

  • Writes and faxes prescriptions.

  • Assist front desk as needed

  • Assists in exam room with doctors.
